John Rudge

I’m Professor of Geodynamics at the Bullard Laboratories, Department of Earth Sciences, University of Cambridge and fellow and Dean of College at Trinity College. I use ideas from physics, chemistry, and mathematics to tackle a wide variety of problems associated with the workings of Earth’s deep interior.

I have spent much of my academic career in Cambridge, having been an undergraduate in mathematics, a PhD student in Earth Sciences and Applied Mathematics, and a Junior Research Fellow at Trinity College. While a Junior Research Fellow, I conducted a series of short postdocs at IGMR, ETH Zürich (with Bernard Bourdon); Yale University (with David Bercovici); and the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, Columbia University (with Marc Spiegelman). I was appointed as a University Lecturer in Geophysics at Cambridge in 2010, and promoted to Professor in 2022.

On this site you’ll find more details about my research and my teaching. I am always on the look out for talented students and postdocs to work with me on cutting-edge Earth Science problems: please do not hesitate to get in touch.
